There comes a time when the suburbs start calling your name—whether you're craving more space and a backyard, top-rated schools, or simply a driveway to pull right into. Fortunately, Greater Boston has no shortage of incredible towns that offer all of that and an easy commute into the city. Here are a few standout options on the South Shore:
Hingham, MA: A waterfront South Shore town with a true neighborhood feel. Walkable downtown, excellent schools, beautiful parks and conservation areas, plus a 30-minute ferry or 40-minute drive into Boston.
Cohasset, MA: Less than an hour from the city, known for its strong community vibe, stunning coastal real estate, beautiful beaches, and growing restaurant and boutique scene. Highly rated schools add to its appeal.
Norwell, MA: A rural-feeling town popular with young families. Larger lots and homes compared to surrounding towns, great schools, commuter rail access, and plenty of outdoor recreation along the North River and local parks.
Scituate, MA: A classic beach town with deep Irish roots and a lively year-round community. Midway between Boston and Plymouth, with a scenic harbor full of local restaurants and independent shops, highly rated schools, and quick access to the water.
Duxbury, MA: A scenic coastal community known for excellent public schools, a strong sense of community, and (arguably!) the best beaches on the South Shore. Under an hour to Boston for commuters.
Which town could you see yourself in?
